Trident, as much use as a Fax machine

Before I get into this I need to point out that the conservative Prime Minister Theresa May whom almost the entire population of Scotland did not vote for has publicly said “she would not hesitate to push the button and fire a nuclear missile” That’s all right Mrs you will be hiding in a wee nuclear bunker with your cronies when you push the button.

In fact a fax machine is more useful than Trident and better value for money. If someone gets on your bad side you can push a button and send them a wee fax to tell them what you think of them.  If you were to do that with trident you would wipe them and the nearest million people next to them out as well. If the fax machine breaks just send them an email and ask them to think of the environment before the print it off. With Trident there would be no environment left to cut a tree down and make some paper to print the email off.

The Trident nuclear programme, also known as the Trident nuclear deterrent and is based at Fastlane in Scotland. The Trident fleet consists of four Vanguard-class submarines armed with Trident II D-5 ballistic missiles, able to deliver thermonuclear warheads. Operated by the Royal Navy and based at Clyde Naval Base on the west coast of Scotland, a few miles from Glasgow Scotland's largest city and the UK's third largest city. At least one submarine is always on patrol to provide a continuous at-sea capability. Each one is armed with up to 8 missiles and 40 warheads.

The programme was announced in July 1980 and patrols began in December 1994. Its stated purpose by the Ministry of Defence is to "deter the most extreme threats to our national security and way of life, which cannot be done by other means.

Plans for replacement of the Vanguard-class are under way. On 18 July 2016 the House of Commons voted by a large majority to proceed with building a fleet of Successor-class submarines the replacement of Trident will cost of at least £205 billion.  But as with everything that the government says the cost will always end up two or three times as much.

This money would be enough to improve the NHS by building 120 state of the art hospitals and employing 150,000 new nurses, build 3 million affordable homes, install solar panels in every home in the UK or pay the tuition fees for 8 million students.

Not only are these weapons immoral, potentially genocidal and strategically irrelevant in the face of the realistic threats we face today. The Government's National Security Strategy identifies international terrorism, cyber-attacks and natural hazards as greater threats than nuclear war.

During the referendum the royal navy looked at where they could move trident too in the event of a Yes vote, they ruled out any place in England due to the risk to public safety if there were any nuclear accidents or leaks. So we will just leave it in Scotland and not give a dam if anything bad happens, it will just wipe out have the population and any poor sheep that survives will have radiation poison and no grass to munch on.
